Who invented the 1st compass?

In science we are learning about MORE NAVIGATION but this time we are learning to use compasses and who was the person who invented the compass

The 1st one to invent this compass was William Thompson

William Thompson (by the way i made this image a png by remove.bg)

The directions of a compass a N.E.S.W or for long. North, south, east and west.

The jobs compasses do is to help miners navigate though the darkness.

they also do direct you your your home or civilisation.

and it does guide them to land or sea.

How does a compass work?. if you have a compass just find where the red and black/white  needle and using the dial turn it N to the red side and S to the white/black side and BOOM yo have found north and south. but what about west and east?. wel if you rotate the compass or if you let it like that and find east/west you can find east and west How easy is that?

The experiment was a total and utter fail it will not attract to the magnet when near making north im kinda disappointed of the results but if your confident enough try it. I give this a 2/10

Early polynesian navigation

in hunumanu 3 we have been researching how the early Polynesian people found there way across the pacific ocean

 Early Polynesian navigation

How do you use memory to navigate? The polynesian wayfinders navigated to pacific ocean using the sun, the moon, fish, debris and vegetation and memory.

Memory make familiar spaces so you need to use land marks like example an island with two trees and a big bush or a spike. using this tool can help you to go back home without getting lost.

The Polynesians wayfinders memorised the stars to help them navigate across the pacific ocean. The use the sun because the sun rises on the east and sets on the west. And constellations like the northern/southern cross do direct them to the north or the south

The Polynesian wayfinders use clouds to navigate because clouds show where land was. Big groups of clouds are close to mountains

They used birds to find land because the flight patterns navigate them to land and birds can fly 190km.

In conclusion, the Polynesian wayfinders used the sun, southern cross, cloud reflections, clouds on top of mountains and birds to navigate the pacific ocean. Are you ready to set sail while remembering it?.

A message from me as a soilder (WW1)

 5 November 1915

To my family

Hello, I hope all of you are well while I was in the war fighting turkey and I'm at Gallipoli. man i missed you all and i want to go home but i have no choice but to stay for the Britain and our country. The food Is horrible It tastes so wrong. There is a lot of blood on the ground even on me. Why does everyone fight for their death? It has rained and rained and we are all wet. We have to sleep in puddles .People are getting sick because of being wet THIS IS LIKE HELL! Thank you for the letter and the biscuits you sent me. I have shared them with my friend and it was the happiest day in Gallipoli. I hope I will come home again and see your and our child’s smile. How are the children growing and how are they doing at school.? I hope they grow up and never serve in the war. I am always thinking of you and hoping to see you soon

Schools in WW1

Ōpōtiki Primary School, 1900s | NZHistory, New Zealand history online

This is what the school looked like in the war

This is an experience because it's a new type of drawing thing called a jamboard
