Who invented the 1st compass?

In science we are learning about MORE NAVIGATION but this time we are learning to use compasses and who was the person who invented the compass

The 1st one to invent this compass was William Thompson

The directions of a compass a N.E.S.W or for long. North, south, east and west.

The jobs compasses do is to help miners navigate though the darkness.

they also do direct you your your home or civilisation.

and it does guide them to land or sea.

How does a compass work?. if you have a compass just find where the red and black/white  needle and using the dial turn it N to the red side and S to the white/black side and BOOM yo have found north and south. but what about west and east?. wel if you rotate the compass or if you let it like that and find east/west you can find east and west How easy is that?

The experiment was a total and utter fail it will not attract to the magnet when near making north im kinda disappointed of the results but if your confident enough try it. I give this a 2/10
